AC not cooling or blowing warm air
Warm air from an AC is usually an airflow, electrical, refrigerant, or outdoor-unit problem. The best first split is whether the indoor blower runs, the outdoor unit runs, and the air filter is clean.
- Dirty filter, blocked return, dirty indoor coil, or weak blower reducing airflow.
- Failed capacitor, contactor, fan motor, compressor issue, or tripped breaker at the outdoor unit.
- Low refrigerant from a leak, restriction, or metering-device problem.
- Call for service if the outdoor unit will not run, the coil is icing, the system runs constantly without cooling, or breakers keep tripping.
Questions to ask during your service visit
- What are the refrigerant pressures and superheat/subcooling readings?
- Is airflow correct across the coil?
- Is the repair worth doing based on system age and refrigerant type?
